Central Ops has heard persistent rumors of enemy activity in this area for
some time. Your orders are to scout out these activities and disrupt
the enemy's plans before long term damage to our position in this region
Stealthily scout out the enemy operations in this area,
collecting as much information on their plans as possible, while
disrupting their formations. We have connections with the natives in
the area that will help us learn about enemy units present before they see
us. Use this knowledge to surgically ambush the enemy's units as you
work into the core of these secretive areas.
Warships with special teams of interpreters
and scouts have been added to our forces, to lead the
way in probing the areas of enemy activity. These
ships will be able to reveal nearby enemy ships (in
those areas) by moving cautiously towards suspected
If any enemy carriers are involved, our agents
in the area will already be able to point out their
location. Use this information to
while probing the zones, and preserve your element of
surprise by destroying the enemy in one round of combat
where possible. Wait till the last moment to enter
the actual zone areas where possible, as the enemy is
bound to have their own agents that will report the
presence of our ships.
The mission button and
floating mission menu will describe how the reconnaissance is going.
Our long term position in this entire region may be affected by
these secret enemy operations. It is vital that you collect as much
information on the nefarious operations as possible and smash up their
activities where possible. The normal city conquest Victory Points you
take during this mission will be adjusted by how well you fare in
penetrating the enemy operations. This adjustment is made to what would
otherwise be your normal cumulative VP total for the game.
For instance, if you fail to scout any of the involved zones, you
will usually be credited only 60% or less of your actual VP total.
If you manage to collect about 80% of
the information in these zones, you will receive credit for 100% of your VP
total. Succeed in extracting all of the information in these zones, and you
will be credited 120% or more of your actual VP total.
Specific Tips on how to execute the mission start here:
Use your "mission" ships with the native interpreters on them to
scout the areas of enemy activity. When in the vicinity of the
mission zones, your special ships will be able to
reveal enemy ships stationed in the area up to one hex away.
Submerged submarines will not be seen this way, as the local natives will
not be aware of it's presence.
Enemy ships stationed around their activity zones are usually
under radio silence, and will not move to new locations unless they have
been alerted to your presence in the area. You might be able to
ambush some of these enemy ships... sinking
them in one combat round may prevent other nearby enemy ships from
realizing you are there.
In general, enemy ships stationed at zones will "wake up" when
you end your turn in that zone. Also,
attacking a stationed ship without sinking it will usually sound the alarm
to other nearby enemy ships. When possible take the time to
surgically remove as many ships stationed there before scouting the zone
Every movement phase that you end in a zone will let you
accumulate one point of recon information there,
up to the limit for that zone. Your ship will have to survive combat to
collect this information and report it back to Headquarters.
Note that enemy ships stationed around a zone
may or may not stick around after detecting
your presence there. So be careful not to wreak havoc with your
other combat areas when these enemy ships sometimes boogie out of their
assigned secret operation zones.
